STUDENT MINISTRY FAQ's

1. HOW DO I GET MORE INFO OR SIGN UP FOR AN UPCOMING ACTIVITY?
You can always find more info on upcoming events at the Student Ministry section of the Information Center located in the FCCC Gathering Area just inside the main entrance... The Student Ministry section is on the right end of the info center... There you'll find posters, brochures, summer schedules, sign up sheets, etc... You will also find a welcome / info table inside the entrance of the Fellowship Hall during CRAVE or Sunday School...

If an event is local with little or no cost, we will more than likely put out a sign up sheet that will be at the Student Info Center... you can simply sign up for that event... If an event is out of town or requires payments ahead of time, we will ask you to register by turning in your depsit using one of the white Activity Envelopes found at the Info Center...

For all out of town events, students are required to turn in a Parental Consent Form ... these forms are found at the Info Center and can be turned in with $ in the Activity Envelope... The forms are setup to cover a full year (Sept - Aug.) ... so once you fill one out, we'll keep it on file and you won't have to fill out another one until the next school year...

Activity Envelopes can be turned in at any Youth Program or at the information center ... If you turn it in at the information center, make sure that you turn it in to volunteer who is staffing the info center and they'll make sure it gets to us...

2. HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M GOING TO HEAVEN?
A lot of people think that they can get to heaven by doing good things or by being a good person... But the Bible says that even the best of us has messed up sometime... We've fallen short of God's standard of perfection... No matter how good you are or how many good things you do, it will never be enough... That's the bad news...

THE GOOD NEWS is that you don't have to do anything to be good enough... It's already been done for you... God's Word tells us that Jesus was God's Son and that He came to earth and lived a perfect life... But he was killed... Even though he didn't deserve it, he died in our place... He took our penalty as His own... All you have to do is accept the gift that He has given...

3. HOW DO I ACCEPT JESUS?
The Bible gives us a plan or a process to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and gain the promise of Heaven...

BELIEVE - First, you need to believe that Jesus is who the Bible says He is... He's God's Son... lived a perfect life... Died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin... Came back to life after 3 days... Went back to heaven and will come again for those who love him...

REPENT - Just believing in Jesus is not enough... we have to let that belief / faith change who we are and how we live life... instead of living life by our own way of doing things... we have to change direction .. make a spiritual U-turn and start letting our life be led by Jesus...

CONFESS - This simply means that we have some things we need to tell... We need to tell God that we know we are sinners ... that we aren't perfect and that we need Him... AND we need to tell others what we believe about Jesus... He said that if we'll admit that we know Him and love Him to other people, then He will acknowledge us before God...

BAPTISM - The Bible tells us that we are to baptized in water for the forginveness of our sin and so that we can receive the gift of God's Spirit living in us to give us direction, encouragement, and strength... It symbolizes the cleaning up of our life that God does on the inside...

LIVE THE LIFE - Becoming a Christian is just the beginning... It's like the birth of a new baby... we need to grow in knowing Jesus and becoming more like Him... It's a life long process that will have it's ups and downs... We don't do the right things to get into heaven... we do the right things because Jesus got us into heaven... We do right as our way of expressing our love and gratitude to God for His grace and His love...

If you would like more information on becoming a Christian, we've got a short, simple study booklet called, "The Road That Leads to Home..." Contact us and we'll be glad to put one of those in your hands and to talk with you about this decision...

4. WHY SHOULD I GO TO CHURCH?
This is one of those things that some people do because they think they are supposed to do it or because it's something that will get them into heaven... But Church is not an obligation or a burden... Church is a gift...

The Church is made up of all those people that have accepted Jesus and love Him... As the Bible tells us, we come together to worship God and to learn more about Him and what He desires for our lives... We come together to encourage one another... We come together to build relationships with people who believe like we do... We come together to increase our effectiveness at meeting people's needs and sharing the love of Christ...

We need to be part of the church because without it, we are isolated and will be weakened by the pressures of the World... The Bible says ,"though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves, a cord of three strands is not easily broken...." Simply put , we need to come to church to grow stronger in our faith and to join with other believers in this journey...

5. HOW DO I PICK A BIBLE?
Most of us eat 3 meals a day... we feed our bodies, but neglect our spiritual health. If we want to grow in our relationship with God, we've got to know Him... The Bible is the key to getting to know God.

WHAT KIND OF BIBLES ARE THERE?
Any BIble written in English has been translated from the languages of the original writers (Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek). Some English translations are easier to read than others. The following is a list of common translations listed in order of difficulty, starting with the easiest (in our opinion): New Century Version (NCV), New International Version (NIV), New American Standard Version (NASV), King James Version (KJV)... Another new translation is called the Message... It sounds different because it is translated into contemporary English in a more converstional style, but the message is the same... However the you will not find verse numbers in all copies of the Message...

In addition to the translation versions of the Bible, different publishers include different feature items with their Bibles... Some include introductions to each book, a subject guide, charts, maps devotional thoughts, and notes about various parts of scripture...

THE FCCC STUDENT MINISTRY most widely uses the NIV Student Bible... The NIV is an easy - medium level read and the Student Bible is filled with great notes and other helps to Bible reading...

WHERE DO I START READING?
A lot of people try to read their Bible from cover to cover, but few make it all the way through with this method. One reason is that the books are not arranged in a way that one book always leads directly into the next. The 66 books of the Bible were written by 40 authors over 1500 years and are many different styles of writing... Trust us on this one, upon further study you'll discover what we mean. If you want to get a good overview, start by reading the gospel of John (4th book in the New Testament) and then Genesis (1st book of the Old Testament). By reading these two books, you'll get an overview of the life of Jesus and the big picture of God's creation and our human condition... After that see if your Bible has a reading plan in it... Many Bibles have several reading plans listed...

WHERE CAN I GET A BIBLE?
Bibles are available everywhere... You can go to a Christian Bookstore like Lifeway or Family Christian Store... You can go to Wal-Mart or Target or Barnes & Noble... Like most things these days, you can get them online @ sites like christianbook.com ... Going to a Christian bookstore is a great way to get to take a look at different Bibles and get someone who can help you pick one that is right for you... And if you don't have a Bible and can't get one on your own, WE"LL GIVE YOU ONE FOR FREE!!! See one of the Youth Ministry leaders or Church Ministry Staff and we'll be glad to give you a free one that you can keep!

6. CAN I USE MY TALENTS?
There are many areas within the student ministry and/or the wider church body in which you can get involved and use your talents. We are always looking for more people to get involved and can always use the extra help and support. If you an interesting singing or can play a musical instrument then we have a band that we would be glad to plug you into. We also have a group that does dramas for our student ministry if that is something that you would be interested in. If you enjoy working on the media side of things then we can use your help with the AV Team. Interested in computers and websites, maybe you could help us out with this site... Whatever your interest is then we can probably find a way to get you involved and to meet other people who also enjoy doing the same things as you.
